I'm the first?!?
I just knew someone had beat me to the punch in reviewing this book.

Check this out. Are you interested in taking over the world one block at a time? Are you interested in thinking out of the box in doing so (no pablum like "we need to start our own businesses" or "we need to elect people we really really trust")?

Pick this book up. Trust me. I'm willing to bet that there is at least ONE social invention in this book that would change your life if you just tried it with a few friends.

Writing Space: Computers, Hypertext, and the Remediation of Print
Published in Paperback by Lawrence Erlbaum Assoc (March, 2001)
Author: Jay David Bolter
Average review score:

Modern Communication and Information Technology
It gives me great pleasure to submit the first critique for "Writing Space." Mr. Bolter is the only author I have discovered in my four years of study I actually enjoy reading. Mr. Bolter succinctly verbalizes the importance of understanding new media and finding a resolution to the gap we are realizing between the print mediums and new technologies. Mr. Bolter's writing provides the bridge for this gap. "Writing Space" forms a concise basis for anyone who is interested in the issue of reconciliation between the old and the new forms of media. This text is the begining in the understanding of the history of print and the advances of media to the modern age and computer use. I have read some very incomprehensible text on the subject but Mr. Bolter has created works that are a pleasure to read and easy to assimilate. He illuminates these subjects for everyone. Mr. Bolter provides a validation that the general public, the scholar and the instructor can begin to realize in unifying the concepts in communication and information technology studies. Mr. Bolter's works should be the reference of choice. This should be the first text you choose! This is a stand alone text or could be combined with his other texts as an entire semester of study.

Yellowstone Place Names
Published in Paperback by Montana Historical Society Press (May, 1991)
Authors: Lee H. Whittlesey, F. Jay Haynes, and Timothy R. Manns
Average review score:

A great Yellowstone reference guide!
Ever wondered how that mountain got its name? Ever wondered why a small geyser has such a magnificent name? Lee has done excellent work here in compiling stories behind many of the features you encounter when in Yellowstone National Park. It is great fun to lear more about the things you have always taken for granted in Yellowstone (Note: This is a shorter version of Wonderland Nomenclature - a guide which contains stories behind almost every Yellowstone name -....)

Yes Minister, Volume 1 [2 cassettes, BBC Audio Collection]
Published in Audio Cassette by Soundelux Audio Pub (June, 1990)
Authors: Jonathan Lynn and Antony Jay
Average review score:

A great resource for the student of British politics
It was hard enough even in the seventies for American audiences to fully 'get' _Yes, Minister_. Enjoyment of the show is greatly enchanced by at least a moderate familiarity with the British system of government, and gets funnier the more you know about Whitehall. Thirty years on, a lot of the political issues about which the characters speak are all but indecipherable on this side of the pond.

Yet, I adore this show. It's _Benson_ on steroids.

The relationships between the characters are so incredibly well drawn, the acting so superb, that, while helpful, knowledge about the specific issues debated by Humphrey and Hacker is secondary. Even if one doesn't quite understand what's so important about the "cod quota" or the "vehicle licensing center in Swansea", you laugh anyway because the acting's just that good.

I fell in love with this show while taking a British politics class, and am still convinced to this day that there is no single instructional material so able to give non-Britons a sense of the difference between their government and the British one.

What's interesting about the cassette version of _Yes, Minister_ (though not of _Yes, Prime Minister_) is that it was a capture of the radio version of the show, not simply the soundtrack from the televised episode. As a result there are many subtle differences, especially in the first episode, between the video and casette releases. For my money, the casette version is by far the better acted.

You Never Asked Me to Read: Useful Assessment of Reading and Writing Problems
Published in Paperback by Pearson Allyn & Bacon (11 June, 1999)
Author: Jay Simmons
Average review score:

If You Have a Reading/Writing Challenged Child - Read This!
I read this book with the greatest interest because my child is one of the case studies used by Jay Simmons. I found the book very interesting not only because I was eager to read about my child but also because I found the entire book to be of interest as the parent of two learning disabled children. As the parent of two children with reading/writing weaknesses, I am always searching for information to assit them and also to assit me in being better prepared for working with my school district. I am going to request that my school board and current principal read Jay's book in the hopes that they can see areas where they can improve on meeting the needs of our district's children. I would recommend that anyone with a child who has reading and writing problems read this book before your next I.E.P. meeting. It will give you some very helpful knowledge.
